Note: Saatva just recently updated the Zenhaven, altering the kind of latex utilized in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now includes Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; read more about the distinctions below. We prepare to test the new version soon and will upgrade this guide with our impressions.
The all-foam Zenhaven consists mostly of latex, which is intrinsically durable. The Zenhaven is also flippable (the Luxury Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Gentle Company side feels a bit firmer), which might prove helpful if you’re unsure what you prefer or if your requirements change in time. This is not a traditionally cushy mattress, but it offers a flexible cushion, great edge support, and a subtle springiness. Given its innate toughness, the Zenhaven needs to work well for individuals who weigh more than 200 pounds.
For this review, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for several weeks in my own home. These mattresses were likewise assessed in our group tests conducted for Wirecutter’s guides to the finest foam bed mattress and the best innerspring bed mattress. As Wirecutter’s senior personnel writer for sleep, I’ve spoken with scores of experts in the mattress market and in materials science; checked out lots of bed mattress factories, display rooms, and stores; and read the fine print on specifications, service warranties, and return policies. Most recently, monitoring editor Courtney Schley assessed the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her home for numerous weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “eco-friendly” brand names. But we do understand that the company uses thistle pulp or organic wool as a flame retardant (instead of chemicals or fiberglass) and only organic cotton (instead of synthetic blends) in its covers. As do other online bed mattress business, Saatva touts such extras as zoned layers for “optimum spinal column support”; we’re less pleased with those functions and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer service and resilient foams and coils.
