What mattress is better than Saatva?
Founded in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer luxury mattresses under three brand name names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils provide the Saatva Classic a great amount of bounce near the top, and a plush top includes softness. As with all of the Saatva Company’s bed mattress, the Saatva Classic is provided by movers, rather than in a box.

Keep in mind: Saatva recently updated the Zenhaven, altering the type of latex used in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now features Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; find out more about the distinctions below. We plan to check the new version quickly and will update this guide with our impressions.
The all-foam Zenhaven consists mainly of latex, which is intrinsically long lasting. The Zenhaven is also flippable (the Luxury Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Mild Company side feels a bit firmer), which might prove handy if you’re not exactly sure what you choose or if your requirements change with time. This is not a conventionally soft bed mattress, however it offers a flexible cushion, excellent edge support, and a subtle springiness. Given its inherent resilience, the Zenhaven must work well for people who weigh more than 200 pounds.
For this evaluation, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for several weeks in my own house. These bed mattress were also evaluated in our group tests conducted for Wirecutter’s guides to the best foam bed mattress and the best innerspring bed mattress. As Wirecutter’s senior personnel author for sleep, I’ve talked to ratings of experts in the mattress industry and in materials science; gone to dozens of bed mattress shops, display rooms, and factories; and pored over the small print on specs, service warranties, and return policies. Most just recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley examined the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her home for several weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “eco-friendly” brands. But we do know that the company uses thistle pulp or organic wool as a flame retardant (instead of chemicals or fiberglass) and just natural cotton (instead of artificial blends) in its covers. As do other online bed mattress business, Saatva touts such bonus as zoned layers for “optimal spinal column assistance”; we’re less amazed with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive client service and durable foams and coils.
